Matthew Day Jackson was born in 1974 in Panorama City, California USA. In 1997 he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Washington and in 2001 a Master of Fine Arts from the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, Newbrunswick New Jersey. His artworks express his struggling with big themes like nature, the constructive and destructive technologic developments, God and even the link between those themes. This involves complex research and investigation of history, technology and philosophy. Noticably are his works with iconic figures like the famous inventor, architect, engineer and cosmologist Buckminister Fuller (“Bucky”).

Noticable collections: Saatchi Collection, François Pinault collection, Collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, collection Whitney Musem NY, Domus Collection.

Feng Zhengjie (1968 Sichuan) is one of China’s best-known painters because of his gaudy, futuristic portraits of fashionable women. Feng’s portraits are splashed with neon like colors, featuring women with red hair, luscious lips and zany, wild-eyed expressions. The images painted by Feng, a graduate of the distinguished Sichuan Fine Arts Academy, are believed to be portraits of rampant consumerism, the emergence of pop culture and the glamour of the new age.

Liu Xintao was born in 1968 in Xi Chang, Sichuan, China. He graduated in 1992 from Sichuan Fine Art Academy. Currently Xintao is Vice Professor at Le Shan Fine Art Academy. Xintao’s work is highly unusual. His Anomalous, sloppy and anxious brushwork stress the fast moving contemporary century and its focus on the materialization of human beings and the lost of their social attitudes. Xintao emphasises this using bilboards, car mirrors and fast food logos as centrepieces of his figures. Placing love near the symbol of consumerism signifies love being disrupted by consumerism or people truckling towards consumerism.

The artist has received a huge amount of coverage, with exhibitions all over China, as well as in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Italy, United Kingdom, Israel, USA and Canada. Xintao was honored with a prize at the second Sichuan Young Artists Exhibition in 2002 and a Special Achievement Award in 2005 at the Lu Shin Cup Painting Competition. He has also been recognised by the media of the art world, with articles in contemporary art magazines like the important Contemporary Fine Art and Oriental Art.

Zhang Dali was born in 1963 in Harbin, Manciuria, in the north of the People’s Republic of China. In 1987 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Zhang Dali’s work actively engages with the rapidly changing environment in China. Zhang started working in portraiture as one of Beijing’s first graffiti artists, spraying and carving heads into the walls of the hundreds of buildings scheduled for destruction. Working across a wide variety of media – from urban art, to archiving photographs of Mao, and large scale installations. Zhang’s portraits document a contemporary social history of a culture in radical development and flux. or his paintings Zhang Dali gets his inspiration from old postcards of peasants and operators portraying their faces by the oppressing repetitions of the AK47 initial that renders their faces and their expressions almost evanescent.

Shi Lifeng was born in 1968 in Hebei Province, China. In 1991 Lifeng graduated from the Hebei Normal University. Lifeng is an worldwide exhibited artist with shows in China, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland (including the famous Art Basel) and the USA.

Lifeng tries to visualize the relationship between people and their surrounding world. In some paintings Lifengs red figures reflect the marginalized minority in the Chinese historical society. Vulnarable groups of individuals, struggling to survive in the collectivated Chinese Society of those days. They are running, climbing and falling, in order to get out of there desperate situation.

His work is however not only focussed on historical polical society. Of course history is important, but can it still determine people’s live today and even their future? According to Lifeng it is important in todays Chinese live to learn and use the individual intellect, discover the world and be creative. In some paintings we see the red figures fly over the world. There arises a new world order.

Tang Jianying was born in 1963 in Hebei Province, China. He grew up in a dramatic period of Chinese history. He deeply immerses himself into the past experiences and memories, with depression and captivity. Those experiences are also the main subject of his paintings. The Cultural Revolution had great impact on his life and his art. During those times the Chinese society was dangerous, depressing and chaotic and people couldn’t have an own opinion. But even today nobody is totally free. Even in the Western society. No one is not in the web, no one is not in the cage, no one is not in the prison. Some are in a a corporeal cage, some are in a immaterial web, while others are in a material prison. There is hope for us in this life?

Gao Feng was born in 1975 in Urumi, Xinjiang Province and gradutated in 1994 from the Fine Arts Department of the Xinjiang Normal Universicty and in 1995 from the Sculpture Department of the China Central Fine Arts Academy. Gao Feng works range from performance, installation, sculpture to painting.

In the Micro Organism series, Gao Feng focusses on the parallels of human beings and microscopic life. The emphasis is on the role microscopic organisms play in nature. Are we part of microscopic life or is microscopic life part of us? Gao Feng examines human beings to reveal the teeming unseen life present there, and shows how, with a “microscope or hand-held lens”, we can explore the wonders of biology.

Luo Fahui was born in 1961 in Chonqing. He graduated from oil painting department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1985. The flowers he use in his paintings symbolize sex. Chinese sex culture is depressingly gentle, dark and implicit. Luo’s roses are dark, wet, but also have a soft gentle beauty. Luo’s roses are a woman’s sensuality as rendered by a man. Perhaps many Chinese men have the gentleness and delicacy of a woman and, within their culture, are normal and natural.

He was the lead singer, guitarist, violinist and song-writer for this group, and at the same time acted as a member of the first group of the avant-garde artist’s community “Beijing East Village”.

According to Zuoxiao artists are ordinary people doing an ordinary job, nothing more. “It’s funny when people treat artists like they are special. It’s even more funny when artists think they are really something.”
